Get Involved Online
|COVID-19 UPDATE: The Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara is complying with all Santa Barbara County and California State regulations regarding Covid-19. Our ability to have in-person events will depend largely on the current colored tier our county is in. You can always review the Santa Barbara County Public Health website to see the current status for indoor and outdoor events. Thank you for your understanding.|
Welcome to our vibrant, diverse, and dynamic community. We have a dizzying selection of events, groups, and volunteer opportunities. See below for descriptions of our member-led groups and volunteer opportunities.
While we’ve had to temporarily pause all in-person gatherings, we have moved many of our weekly events and happenings online. Join us virtually today!

Advance Directive Workshop
The Alliance for Living and Dying Well will offer an online version of their in-person workshops, offered at USSB. Please RSVP 24 hours in advance.
Arts and Craft Zoom Meeting
Meets every Monday. Bring your art projects and share them with the group!
Annual Auction Team
This team works all year to plan, coordinate and execute USSB’s annual online fundraising auction, with dozens of virtual events, art, and more donated by USSB members. The event takes place every October.
Chancel Choir and Treble Chorale
Though we cannot sing together online, singers and any congregational guests meet to catch up and keep in touch.
Three times a year we offer members the opportunity to join a Connection Circle – a small group of six to ten people who meet twice a month, for an hour-and-a-half, for four months. These small groups provide an opportunity for individuals to build trust and make deep and meaningful connections which sustain them and our community as a whole. Groups are organized for sharing and listening. Guided by a facilitator, group members engage in reflection on the monthly themes. For more information, contact co-coordinators Carol Schwyzer or Becky Blake.
Friday Salon “Meeting with Ideas”
At this weekly Friday Salon Meeting with Ideas, Gail Fairburn leads talks on a wide range of topics, from travel to poetry and more.
Justice & Equity Team
Every Friday we gather online to discuss the justice issues of the day and organize for action! The Friday Zoom meeting is facilitated by a small group of lay leaders with Rev. Julia Hamilton attending as she is able.
Our Membership Ministry is dedicated providing a warm, welcoming and connected environment for members and visitors alike and meets online monthly. We encourage and help people navigate their way from their first visit to Membership and beyond. If you have found your spiritual home here and would like to share it with others, this is the volunteer committee for you. If you are interested, contact the office.
Quantum Consciousness Affinity Group
The Quantum Consciousness Affinity Group Zooms every Monday evening. After a brief intro for Newbies, videos are shared that open discussion on how the laws of physics imply we are all one.
Racial Justice Book Group
In this group, participants read a book each month that addresses the many issues of racial inequity and justice. Then, we have an open, text-focused discussion of the book each month. We read a wide range of fiction, nonfiction and poetry covering Racial Justice. Past books have included: Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson, African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song, edited by Kevin Young, and Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Solo Connection Meet-Up
Connect with other solo folks during this difficult time. For more information, contact Rachel Aarons or Keith Strohmaier.
Tuesday Zoom After Lunch
Please join us to talk about questions of current interest, both spiritual and material. This is an open discussion hosted by John Altman.
