USSB News for June 11: The Spiritual Lessons of Dungeons & Dragons, In-person MakerSpace for Kids, and much more

Greetings! Thank you for subscribing to the weekly e-news from USSB.
    Sunday, June 13
Join us for a live online service at 10:00 a.m.
    led by Rev. Julia Hamilton
”How We Roll: The Spiritual Lessons
    of Dungeons & Dragons”
Many people (including your minister!) have found fun, friendship, and deep life lessons embedded in cooperative, story-based games called “RPGs” – role-playing games. No longer just for nerds, these games are having a moment in the sun. Why? How do games like “Dungeons & Dragons” help us be better humans?

    Church Without Walls Campaign
The Church Without Walls campaign aims to raise $20,000 to install the technology and facility upgrades necessary for building a multi-platform church, allowing us to safely come back safely to in-person worship services and programs while simultaneously delivering exceptional virtual service and programs. We are asking every member, friend, and visitor to make a contribution, whether large or small, to the campaign. You may find out more about the campaign, our fundraising status, the benefits of multi-platform church, and a donate link at our CWW webpage here: or contact Erin Wilson with any questions.
Outdoor MakerSpace Water Kickoff, with Snow Cones and Water Balloon Launchers!
    Sunday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m.
MakerSpace is back for the summer! To keep everyone safe, we’ll be outside and masked the entire time. We’ll have art, sewing, jewelry making, Minecraft, construction, electronics take apart, and much more. To kick off the summer, we’ll have snow cones and a special station to make launchers for eco-friendly water balloons! Parents will be able to watch the service in Parish Hall and, starting June 21, can choose to stay and watch the service or participate in a parent discussion group.
We Need Donations for Maker Space
We will be making water balloon launchers this Sunday (for eco-friendly reusable water balloons).
    We still need:
    • Any kind of wide-mouthed tub or carton (e.g. large butter tubs and Cool Whip tubs)
    • 2-liter soda bottles
    • PVC pipes
    • Rulers and things that are ruler shaped
    • Rubber bands
Look for the donation box in front of the office or kids can bring items on Sunday. After June 13, we will need old clothes for our sewing station and old electronics to take apart. Clothes can go in the donation box. If you have electronics to donate, please contact Christina or Charla to arrange a pick-up or drop-off time.
Sunday Service Screenings in Parish Hall Start June 20
We won’t gather as a full community in our sanctuary until this fall, but in the meantime, we invite those who have not been able to join us on Zoom to come to Parish Hall on Sundays for an opportunity to watch the online service on our big screen.
Sunday Service Screenings will start on June 20, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and continue through the summer (as long as it is safe to do so). We will be appropriately distanced and ask people to wear masks while on campus. There is no coffee hour – just a viewing of the worship service livestream.
We have a capacity limit of 40 people, so please let us know if you are planning to come: RSVP here.
If you are able to participate on Zoom from your home, we ask that you continue to participate from home, so that there will be enough room in Parish Hall for those who cannot be with us any other way.
We look forward to returning to live services together this fall! Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
    Join Our Drum Circle!
The USSB drum circle is a relaxing place to come and learn music in community, regardless of experience or prior knowledge. We’ve got instruments, or bring your own. The group meets weekly outdoors in the Parish Courtyard, with instructor Tim MacDonald, on the first and third Thursday of each month. Anyone may attend! For more information, contact John Altman.
