“Dr. King and the Principle of Democracy”

    Rev. Julia Hamilton

    Sunday at 10:00 AM

As Unitarian Universalists, we affirm the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large. On this Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, one year after an anti-democratic insurrection in the halls of Congress, we will reflect on the intersection of our commitment to democracy with our commitment to anti-racism work.

We will be gathering in our USSB Zoom Sanctuary for this service, followed by our regular online USSB coffee hour.

Watch the Zoom service and join us for coffee hour here.

Volunteers Needed for the 2022 Point In Time Count

Wednesday, January 26 from 5:30 to 8:30 AM

The Point In Time (PIT) Count is the annual count of individuals and families experiencing homelessness on a given day.

Teams of volunteers will canvas assigned routes throughout Santa Barbara County and will document who is experiencing homeless. This information will be used to plan local homeless assistance systems, justify funding, and raise public awareness.

    Donations Needed for Hygiene Bags

Point In Time volunteers are also equipped with hygiene bags to distribute to those the encounter the morning of the count. To build these bags WE NEED:

    • Warm socks
    • Soft cereal bars
    • Pads, tampons & hygiene supplies
    • Soap
    • Toothbrush & toothpaste
    • Wet wipes
    • Mask and hand sanitizer

Your donation of these items is crucial in our efforts to solve homelessness in Santa Barbara County. Donations of these items can be dropped off at USSB in the bin in front of Parish Hall. Teams of volunteers will then assemble the bags for distribution. PLEASE DROP OFF DONATIONS NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, JANUARY 16.

    Connection Circles 2.22.jpg

Sign Up for a Connection Circle!

Join us for our next session, dates TBA through May 2022. Each meeting will be an hour and a half long.

    Go HERE to sign up!

These small groups create meaningful connections with other folks in our congregation. Together we will reflect on a different theme each month, using a practice of deep and respectful sharing and listening, which creates a safe, confidential, and welcoming space. Each group is guided by a facilitator and meets twice monthly.

If you have any questions, please contact Carol Schwyzer ( or Becky Blake (

    Signups close January 23.

Volunteers Needed to “Host” Sunday Zoom Service

    One Sunday a Month

We are looking for a few volunteers to assist us with Zoom hosting on Sunday mornings. Zoom hosting is a fun and surprisingly simple way to participate in the life of the congregation from home.

Zoom hosting does not require a great deal of technical knowledge, yet is an important piece our connection and engagement with participants. If you have ever hosted a Zoom meeting before with friends or family, you already have the skills to host the USSB Zoom service.

Volunteer hosts will welcome members and visitors, admit participants to the Zoom meeting, share links in the chat, and host coffee hour. Zoom host volunteers will receive “on-the-Zoom” training and support from our staff team and will commit to one Sunday per month.

Four to five Zoom host volunteers are needed so that volunteers can each rotate through and commit to hosting just one Sundays per month.

Please let Erin Wilson know if you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer!
