Justice & Equity Team
The Justice and Equity Team is dedicated to advancing justice and engaging in compassionate outreach on issues that reflect the values and principles of our Unitarian Universalist faith.
Are you interested in how we can partner with the community to bring more love and justice into our world during this crisis? Join us! We are currently working on issues related to incarceration and prison justice, immigration justice, antiracism, and voting rights.
The team started up in May of 2020 as an online organizing call amongst members concerned with justice issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has expanded to include a variety of concerns that members and friends bring forward.
The Justice & Equity Call
Every Friday morning, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., we come together on Zoom to share resources and organize for action. This group is open to anyone with an interest in learning about the political and social issues confronting our community, state, and nation, and a desire to learn about opportunities to get involved.
As a first step, please join the Justice & Equity Group on our congregational communication site, Realm.
We understand the Friday morning time slot is not ideal for everyone! If you’re not able to attend the regular Friday calls, please join the Justice & Equity Group anyway, where you can access the weekly meeting notes and find out about opportunities to take action.
Immigration Justice Fund (IJF)
Make a one-time or recurring gift to help USSB support migrants on their journey to safety, dignity, and self-determination. The first recipients of the IJF are a young family from Mexico whom members of the Justice & Equity Team met on a 2022 border crossing trip to the La Cobina Shelter in Mexicali, Mexico. The family, fleeing violence and homophobia, are legal asylum seekers in the arduous process of attaining permanent status and are working hard to make a new life in the United States. Your generosity will help make this possible. No donation is too small – or too large!
To donate by check, make your check out to USSB and write Immigration Justice Fund in the memo line. Send your check to: USSB, 1535 Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
